"Surface" evolved from the simple premise of using piezo microphones as a source of gathering raw material, to the idea of exploring the juxtaposition of time scales within a single work. The time scale element is inferred through the movement between environmental field recordings down to the micro details of the working mechanisms contained within a number of machines. The micro event source sounds are taken from magnifying the minutiae of the mechanical noise, pops and clicks from inside a variety of tape recorders.
